Antique Maps
Owning an antique map can be appealing for many reasons. It tells a historical tale of the geography of the region in question and puts you in touch with landmarks, which may no longer exist today. It also presents a beautiful centrepiece in anyones living room. Thirdly, it is a sound investment. A sensible purchase can provide a healthy financial return in a reasonably short space of time.

A range of genuine antique maps is available at the Hiscock Gallery. Although the regular stock is pre-dominantly aimed at the local geography of the Hampshire region, and in particular Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, we have access to a much wider range of maps. Upon request we can usually source other regions within the British Isles, or indeed outside Great Britain for collectors or people with a specific interest.
The age of our stock of maps ranges from late 19th Century to as far back as late 16th century. Prices vary tremendously. Factors like age, rarity. size and popularity account for these large differences. Whereas a late 19th century Portsmouth Plan can retail for around £30, a decorative map by John Speed or Joan Blaeu can set you back between £700 to £1000+.
Antique Prints
We regularly stock a variety of antique prints, ranging from old engravings and etchings to the very popular 1930s Flower fairies by Cecily Mary Barker. Finally, we also provide a choice of local prints of Victorian Portsmouth, by popular engravers such as Harwood, Finden, Bartlett, Brannon and Barber.
