We, at the Hiscock Gallery, make it our business to cater for everyone’s framing needs. Alternatively we can offer a quick fix through our large stock of ready made frames and clip frames. Our quality bespoke framing and consultation service will turn your work of art into a superb display piece.

Bespoke Framing Service
The Hiscock Gallery has, for many years, been renowned for its excellent bespoke framing service. Key to our success is commitment to providing quality and choice:
- Friendly and Patient
Service
We are a service industry offering you, the customer, a pleasant environment when you come in for a framing consultation. As an experienced framer with an understanding of your requirements, we offer the best advice.
Finally, we never rush our customers. We believe that spending a little more time choosing your mount and frame will pay off in the long run and will give you something that will take pride of place in your home and you will enjoy looking at for many years to come.
- Quality Workmanship and
Materials
We work to the highest standards and the guidelines of the Fine Art Trade Guild are put in
practice during the manufacture of all frames. The materials
we use, will always suit the specifics of the frame in
question. Special care is taken to ensure that each frame is
finished and offered to the customer without blemishes and
the presentation of the frame from both front and back will
always be impeccable.
A large choice of over 250 colours and textures ensures that the artwork is presented in a suitable surround. We only ever use Whitecore, Conservation or Cotton Rag boards. Although we do not use Standard board for framing, it is available for sale in store and offers a cheap alternative for customers who are starting their own mount cutting at home. The rigid nature of mountboard also lends itself for many craft applications.
- Choice of
Moulding
Whether you prefer wood, metal or acrylic, our vast range of over 200+ mouldings will ensure that there is something for everyone’s personal taste and environment. We will discuss every aspect of your frame, from choosing the most pleasing moulding and material, through to the safety aspects as the frame plays a critical role in supporting the glass and artwork.
- Glazing
The most common way to glaze a picture is to use 2mm thick glass, especially produced for the framing industry. However, we have a range of speciality glazing products on offer to either enhance or protect your artwork:
- Diffused (matt) glass may help to view your artwork in harsh light conditions
- Glass, containing a UV filter will protect your work from harmful UV rays
- Zero colour shift glass (such as “Water White Denglass” or “True Vue Perfect Vue”) will enhance the artwork and create the illusion of no glass being used.
- Laminated glass or Styrene
(plastic) can be used to toughen the frame and prevent
glass breakage
- Artwork
Protection
Not only must the frame look right for the artwork but it must protect it from dust, moisture and other atmospheric conditions. Where necessary, only acid free materials (Conservation mount board, Cotton Rag board, PH neutral tape, buffered backing etc.) should encase the artwork, therefore preserving it for many years.
We will ensure that all these factors are taken into account during the framing process.
- You Name it, We frame it!
We can frame just about any object and have experienced many different items such as needlework, tapestries, clothing, medals, antiquities, flowers, records, cd’s, plates so…you name it, we frame it!
Ready-made Frames
A large stock and variety of ready made frames and clip frames are available to our customers. This is often a more economical option for those with a small budget or who do not wish to go to the extent of having a frame especially made for them. It is of course also a much quicker, instant way of framing your artwork giving you the possibility of hanging your picture on your wall the same day. The framer can put your picture into a ready made frame that can also be done, but is subject to the framer’s workload and carries a small charge.
We deal with two major UK suppliers of ready made frames: The Artgroup and the Ready Made Picture Frame Company.
Artgroup frames
tend to have a modern and simplistic feel about them, whereas
the Ready Made Picture Frame Company offers a large variety of
mouldings in all standard sizes (see below), commonly used in
the UK.
